Social Media presentation for Tryon Civitans, New Bern, NC

Today, 27 August 2013, I had the  honor and pleasure of speaking with the Tryon Civitan Club about social media – where we are and how to make it work.  Below are links to some sites I referred to  and a copy of my notes.

Wolfram Alpha (www.wolframalpha.com) :

Wolfram|Alpha introduces a fundamentally new way to get knowledge and answers—
not by searching the web, but by doing dynamic computations based on a vast collection of built-in data, algorithms, and methods.

Bringing broad, deep, expert-level knowledge to everyone... anytime, anywhere.

This is the page with the Facebook analysis: http://www.wolframalpha.com/facebook/

  1. Basically want to tell you I’m glad I happened in your website!

  2. Hello there! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with Search Engine
Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted
keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains. If you know
    of any please share. Cheers!

    • I suggest the you read up on the newest Google search algorithm called Hummingbird. Google has adapted to the “conversational” way the people are searching now, especially with the spoken searches on Google, with Siri, etc. I also suggest that you ensure that the keywords are actually used in your content. I know that sounds obvious, but early in the SEO days, people would use keywords just to get people to their sites without too much concern for whether the information was actually there. Some web content people I know now give little attention to keywords, focusing more on rich and changing content, and they are finding this to be successful.

  3. It’s nearly impossible to find knowledgeable people in this particular topic,
however, you seem like you know what you’retalking about!

  9. I just use WordPress. My domain is registered with GoDaddy. Maybe it’s because it’s an uncluttered design without a lot of images that have to load?
